CCC Creators & Innovators: Mathieu Guerville

CCC's Creators & Innovators blog series features members of our team discussing what excites them most about the work they're doing and how they're contributing to CCC's growth and success. This month, we're featuring a Q&A on CCC's Payments solution with Director of New Ventures, Mathieu Guerville.

How long have you been with CCC and what has been your career trajectory since joining the company?I joined a little over a year ago on the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and New Ventures team, with the objective to help CCC launch new products that don’t naturally fit in any of the established markets. About a month or two after I joined, there was a need for me to focus specifically on Payments, so I’ve spent the majority of my time there. What's the most exciting thing about your current project(s)?Payments is exciting because it is a very new product for CCC, but at the same time, it helps our current customers get closer to their straight through processing (STP) vision. It’s really exciting to feel the momentum of the entire organization behind this project and to be able to connect all the different parts together. On the OEM side, I have worked on products that extend the insurance ecosystem beyond the carriers and lenders into the vehicle manufacturers. It has been really cool to feel the power of CCC and expand our reach so that more people can participate. At the end of the day, CCC is making the insurance experience better for everyone involved, including consumers. How does your team collaborate with other insurance group departments?Payments is the final step that happens in order to close out a claim. Whether it’s a casualty claim, a repairable claim, or a total loss claim, the final step in any of those processes is for actual money to move around, so we partner closely with all the teams working to deliver STP. Payments at CCC used to be much more limited, but now we can move money digitally for customers, and all the information about money movements is recorded in our system. What are some of the most important considerations when designing products for such a wide audience? With Payments in particular, there is an added layer of sensitivity around data and finances. We need to take the extra steps to understand not just what happens in the claims cycle, but also the financial background of our customers. Now we need to understand how our customers work with other stakeholders, and how they want to be paid: a digital wallet on their phone? A check? We’re dealing with money, not just a screen on your mobile device. It’s real dollars, so people care about it in a different way. What's your favorite part of the culture at CCC?Customer centricity has been one of my favorite parts of working at CCC. I come from a company where the market is not as concentrated, so it’s exciting to have an entire team dedicated to each account. Each team knows our customers’ people and processes so well they could probably work for them. It’s incredible to see how devoted each team is to our customers. There’s also just a really good, collaborative culture at CCC where everyone is willing to cooperate and work across teams to deliver the best for our customers. What differentiates CCC's technology from other solution providers? Our use of AI is second-to-none because we have so much more data than anybody else in the industry. That alone is a huge advantage, coupled with the fact that we have the best people working on the best data. That’s what creates this uniquely large gap between what we can offer and what others can offer in the market. What do you envision for the future of Payments? We are still very early in the journey for Payments. A few years down the road we hope to go beyond just removing the problem and toward gaining even more of a competitive edge.
